No, your ping will go through a loop dee loop because your going from inside the router, to outside the router, to back INSIDE, instead of just going TO the router and back.

That is why LAN IP only works. Feel free to try it sometime.

I have tried it. I think I am saying something different. I am stating that he should use static ip's and not let the router distribute them. So then he can connect from a different computer with a different ip so it wouldnt give any problems and the computers would think it was a normal server. I know sometimes what I say can be misinterpreted because I get confused as well.

I'm a bit confused now myself.

Define the "different computer". outside the router or inside?

Even then, if it was inside the router, it would have to use the LAN IP. I've had a friend over who was connected to my router and he could only connect with my LAN IP, of 192.168.1.3:27016, as opposed to 24.37.187.28:27016 or whatever the IP address was at the time.

Anyways, all I know is that you use your LAN IP when your inside the router, and WAN when your outside.

No offense... but you guys are sort of stupid...

Get the Steam Stand Alone server, run that, and use A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT.

You can even use the Steam Dedicated Server from the Play Games menu, as long AS YOU USE A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT.

Dedicated Server and Stand-Alone Server are both free, so you don't need a paid account to use them. I run 3 servers in my LAN, all with different accounts, and the only account of my 4 that I paid for is mine, which I use to play with.

It's easy to register another account, even with the Stand-Alone Server. Just go to some website and it'll tell you it's something with the HLDSupdatetool.exe, I think it's a command line like "-register <name> <pw> <remember>" or something like that.

Actually all of the above posts reffer to both Standalone and the HLDs in STEAM.

We aren't stupid, actually. What's this different account you speak of? Hmm? You don't need a different accuont, it's all about the IP addresses, as I've stated before. You can use the same account for anything, just as long as you connect with the LAN IP.

If your server is local...just go to the LAN games...i had this problem when i set up a dedicated server on my lan and i tried to connect over the regular ip instead of the LAN game ip thing...i dont know why it does this, but to play on a lan server...even if its an internet set up game, you have to join on lan not internet...(other people can still join your server)
