Hi, i've acquired yesterday my another box to host games (in a dc)...but here's the problem...

I can't make VAC work, i'm getting this error:

Quote:
Could not establish connection to Steam servers.
cminterface.cpp (599) : Assertion Failed: NULL != m_hConnection
I've already tried disabling the windows firewall, antivirus, everything...

Please gimme a hand...

I'm using THE EXACT SAME configuration that i use on other box (that's currently working w/vac enabled)

** I've found the ONLY and ONLY way to make VAC work on this box...starting the hlds as system user; but that may be a risk :/
*** I've found too, that apparently i need to have at least 1 server connected to the VAC/STEAM servers so the other servers can connect to them too :S

Thanks

Bleh, i could finally sleep 5 hours so i had a time to think...

Solved changing -ip <external ip> for -ip 0.0.0.0 so it binds the server to all the available ips (actually, in my case there are only 2: external & localhost)

Hope this solves the problem to others too.

PS: Also, i'm still getting that error..but vac works for now!

Im pretty sure you can only bind 1 IP per instance anyways.

You can bind 1 instance to all available IPs with 0.0.0.0 on the same port.
You can't bind 2 instances on the same IP / port.

Quote:
-ip - Specifies the address to use for the bind(2) syscall, which controls on which IP addresses the program is reachable on. It must either be a local address (an addresses of the host it runs on) or 0.0.0.0 (the wildcard). This has nothing to do with externally-visible addresses in NAT setups.
