Please, no. That's not good code. The issue is actually in the CSDM module, and it should be fixed in CVS. PostSpawn should never be called when they're not on a valid team so a check like this shouldn't be necessary.

This isn't a bug. I can add forced respawns into the admin command which toggles CSDM though, which I think will solve the issue you're having.
