If anything, sigs should be a privilege to people with good Karma.

If I ever get around to it, I'm writing a full karma system like Slashdot has.

Most people have sigs longer than their posts as it is. Why would we want MORE sig space allocated, so you can shovel more crap in there that nobody wants to read a thousand times over? That's a great idea! In fact, forget the posts -- a lot of people just reply with one, two, or three words anyway. Let's just have people reply to each other by posting their sigs!

How do you get your karma up?

Karma
The basic concept is that if you post a good plugin, your karma goes up. If you have good karma, you are allowed to rate a certain number of plugins per day (everyone has 1 karma to start off and the max is 5). Furthermore, your plugins will automatically start off with a good rating if you have good karma.

If you post bad plugins, your karma goes down. This means your future posts will start off lower than normal and you will not have rating power. If you do not have karma, you can not post plugins. Zero karma takes four days to go back to 1. This is intended to reduce spam.
I think thats it.

First off, you shouldn't make it something so random and blatant. If you would have made the topic "Can we have more sig space?" and asked politely, chances are he still would have said no. But hey, politeness counts, right?

I think Karma has something to do with plugins....
