hl.exe suspended on Windows 8.1

Just got windows 8.1, launched cs 1.6, nothing happens, restarted steam, still nothing, discovered in task manager when I launch it hl.exe appears and changes status from Running to Suspended and disappears. Tried excluding the launcher in DEP, restarted PC, same results. Found a command in command prompt to disable DEP, nothing.

Ran it as administrator, nothing.
Ran it in compatibility mode, nothing.

When I installed windows 8.1, I got the same problem, then I fully uninstalled cs, and installed again a very clean install and worked.

It's a new pc therefore I had to install fresh new steam, I'm gonna move back to windows 7 which is also a good solution.

I would recommend `Linux Mint 18` or `Windows 10`.

Windows 10 is worse than Windows ME.

It's the biggest piece of trash OS going around atm.

This is exactly "Discussion about non-HLDS/SRCDS topics", this is not discussion about anything Dedicated Server related, it's about client.

That is purely subjective. I like Windows 10 the most of all Windows versions, and I actually even like 8.1 more than 7, not sure what the fuss was about it.

Just tried HL1 on my laptop (Windows 8.1) and ran it without crashing, and I tried it on one of my desktops (Windows 10) and it worked as well. I don't have a Windows 7 machine without it being on a VM, but it should probably work.
