Hi,

I'm currently running a DELL Poweredge R810 with 4x E7-8870 CPUs. I run 6 surf servers and 2 AWP servers on a 16 core VM. It runs fine, however the servers get laggy when there are more than 25 people at the same time, which happens more and more.

I'm planning to upgrade the server, with new CPUs. The only CPU with a higher clockspeed that are supported by the server are the E5 8837, which means I get a 0.4Ghz upgrade but I lose hyperthreading and 8 cores out of the 40 I had.

My question is: Is this upgrade worth it? Or am I wasting money (20€ for the 4 CPU)? If I'm wasting money, is there a server model you recommend buying?

Thanks in advance

Maybe not worth to upgrade... those are old cpu's. You could try disable all kinds power safe modes from that system.
Things is, srcds is game and need run higher single core clock. Server cpu's are not made for that.

It's just my opinion

Thanks for the advice! Is there a way I can make the surfing experience more enjoyable for my users? There is quite a few rollebacks when playing on my server, because the sv rises up to 40ms sometimes...

However, I can see a lot of videos on youtube of people surfing on servers with the same number of sv without any rollebacks, like here. How do they do it?

Thanks again!

That's a pretty old and weak cpu for such a high player count.
You will need less but more powerful cores.

Yeah, but they litteraly have the same amount of "lag" without any effect on the player experience... Would reducing the data being sent to the server help?

Yeah unfortunatly those cpu are already top specs for this server :/

Not sure how accurate this chart is. There are many fake benchmark page now, you should not believe.

*edit
page of server cpu's are separated...

And important part is cooling system, or otherwise cpu clocks drop way low down. CPU's drop clocks to reduce heat.
