Old 12-24-2014 , 15:45   Questions regarding SMAC development inactivity
Reply With Quote #1

Hello. I've found about SMAC 3 days ago but I'm not sure if I should download it or not, since last update has been released in November 2013 (a year ago). But this sub-forum is surprisingly quite active, so if anyone could answer some questions, I'd really appreciate it.

1- I know the lack of updates has nothing to do with that Kigen's issue. So, are there plans to resume the support for SMAC? Will the developers ever get back to it? If so, should I wait for the new updates?

2- Is SMAC 0.8.5.1 currently the most updated version?
Edit: Nevermind, I've already found a more updated version.

3- Which modules are safe to use? (by safe, I mean functional and mostly free of false-positives)

4- When SMAC permanently auto-bans someone (by SteamID or IP), does it store the player info into banned_user.cfg? If not, then where?

5- Is the "Game Specific Module" mandatory for SMAC to properly work?
Edit: Nevermind, already found out.

I'm planning to use it in a L4D2 server, currently running SourceMod 1.6.2.
Thank you for your attention.

Remember that 0.8.5.2 is NOT an official release. The latest SMAC development version which also seems to be completely stable is 0.8.6.0.

I reccomend you use SourceMod 1.6.3. It's the latest release.

Also, is the SMAC dev release on SMAC's website? Where?

I know you can't post links.

Yeah, that's the one I've found. I don't use unofficial versions of anything unless it's really necessary.

Nah, I'm fine with SourceMod 1.6.2 for now. No need to upgrade, especially if that may break any of my plugins installed.

You can find SMAC 0.8.6.0. in the new official repository site. It's not a dev version, it's a regular release. Don't worry, it's easy to find on Google.
Tip: last update was 6 weeks ago.

If you plan on using 0.8.6.0 with any plugins that use the SMAC_OnCheatDetected forward, the DetectionType enum has changed in 0.8.6.0, so you'll have to recompile and/or rewrite the plugin that uses said forward.
