I could be wrong here, but that error is from accelerator extension. It just states that server crashed, but doesn't give a reason. You would want to gather the console output before this message.

Any idea how to diagnose the problem

Try to add -condebug to your command line. Then check the console.log in the game directory. It will give you the required output.

In addition, what does accelerator output say?
