Hello,

I am just wondering where do you go when your server crashes. What files do you look at to figure out what caused it? I would like to know also.

Thank you.

These are the steps I am doing to hunt bugs. If the First fails or does not give me a solution or hint I am going to second, then third and so on:

First:
modfolder/addons/sourcemod/logs - newest error log <- usually this is the trick
Check allied modders for news and search errormessages

Second:
modfolder/addons/sourcemod/logs - maybe there are Pluginlogs as well

Third:
modfolder/logs - Logoftheday

Fourth:
Update MM and SM to newest Snapshot (If there is a newer one. Usually I have newest )
Update Extensions like SDKhooks (Valve kills this everytime atm )
Update Gamedatafiles

Fith:
Disable Sourcemod and Metamod to see, if it is related to this or SRCDS

Sixth:
Startup Server with MMS and SM without plugins. Then I enable Plugin after Plugin.

Seventh:
Google

Eigth:
Cry

Ninth:
Cry a little more and curse valve

Tenth:
Disable Sourcemod, MMS, and inform the clan, that the Server will be broken for a while

In 4 years of hosting, I came only once to step 10 ^^

For quick crashes (on startup, connect) I rename the .vdf files which are used to run addons to .wdf (they wont run) one by one so I can see which is causing the problem. Yesterday on war server esl plugin was crashing after 1 minute when players were on the server. Quickly diagnosed and disabled it. If sourcemod is the cause I usually go to the forums and see if others also have problems (usually a game update). If that's not the case I disable a few non-default exts and plugins at a time and restart. After a few tries I figure it out.

Most painful are crashes on every few hours or even once a day because the diagnostics take much longer. Spent 3 days disabling, enabling plugins a week ago because of dhooks and allspectate plugin crash every 4 hours. Now I started to log manually all manual plugin/exts/addons updates or installs. A smart idea I planned to do a while ago but was to lazy. Probably will save me some time in the future.

I always check my server console before I do anything.

If I see any errors relating to plugins, I'll usually disable the plugin until I can find out what is causing it, and fix it.

I've never had my server crash completely, just some things due to a plugin, that was easily fixable.
