By "don't work" you mean nothing changed and you get same sql connection error? You sure server global is changed and has the right numbers, when webserver (MYSQL) is up? It could be, that global is reset at webserver start or if you set it in config and did not restart webserver, obviously nothing going to change. Please give more info, what the exact changes you've made and provide all steps followed. I am not trying to act like asshole, but "don't work" is 0 new information to help.
