The VPK is arguably more "tidy" than anything else, considering it's a single file in the "custom/" folder of your game (this VPK does NOT need to be downloaded to clients, either), rather than several files in arbitrary folders.

Huntereb, Windows or Linux? The gamedata doesn't seem to have changed for TF2Attributes, so have you updated that completely?
