I never thought of it, But yes it should work just fine.
Here is an example which is listed in the sma.
//1 Gunny
amx_protclantag ".:TdoW:." "STEAM_X:X:XXXXXXX"
Where X:X:XXXXXX is the steam ID who you want to be able to use the name or Tag.
