So that when you inevitably drop support other people can go in and fix your outdated stuff?
Or even so that people can help you keep it up-to-date more consistently?
How many closed-source projects I've seen where the main dev goes MIA, and sooner or later something breaks the latest build.
This stuff is (well, was) really great, and it shouldn't be lost to the passing of time, imho.
