don't have to pay for it, it's an option if you want to support developers. All you get for not paying is a pop-up every like 100th file save, which isn't bad at all for such an awesome editor if you ask me.
I pretty much use ST only for Pawn and for simple textual files, so I don't even see that popup that frequently, and I've been using ST since 2014.

Because developers should work their ass off to give you free stuff. As I said, it's an option, and they deserve those 70 dollars. If I were able to pay them (I don't have a way to pay outside my country), I would.
