Two buttons and restricting movement speed to a verry small value while peeking is much easier to use, IMO.
You could add this too, not changeable by cvar, but by player preference... +peek for usage with movement keys and +peekleft and +peekright for instant direction peeking with ability to move verry slowly

That would be more realistic, since u should be able to move ur head a little farther or a little closer.
