I was waiting for this reaction.
Well, since the configuration file is fully customizable, it is possible to even make it give XP on death instead of losing, so if someone wanted to do this, it would be weird for the message to say "you lost XP" even though you gained some.
It would be weird if someone did this in the first place, but you never know what kinds of weird gameplay people will invent.
