How high is the ping between the gameserver and database server? Any packetloss? Is this the only time it's occured?

Not actually necessary. I never run the gameservers on the same server as my database. In this case I only have ~0.3ms to the database from the gameserver however, but I've run gameservers that...

Sure sounds like an issue with the host or your MySQL server isn't optimized / not localhost.
Are you with a hosting company or VPS/Dedi?
