Just for information, I just recompiled PropHunt 2.09 and ... same problem, it crashes :'(

Maybe that is the reason why.
I'm running 2.07 and it crashes (sometimes).

As for the Ubuntu part, since Ubuntu is based on Debian I don't think using Ubuntu will change anything.
