Stripper:Source should be working fine in CS:GO, a lot of people are using it and there have been no issues filed. Make sure you're using an up to date snapshot build.

The default timeout is 30 seconds, which is is way higher than the watchdog limit if you have it enabled. Have you tried configuring a lower timeout?

That PR was merged back when SM 1.9 was the development branch, so both 1.9 (the previous stable branch) and 1.10 (the current stable branch) have support for reading variant props.
