After more research it's apparent the L4D2 MOTD not displaying properly has been an issue for years and continues to be such.

I do feel better knowing it's not an issue caused by my error.

Yup, tried that among all other methods I can think of. For now I have resorted to just entering the motd as text into the motd.txt, it's ugly but clients need to know the server commands and...

Ok I have tried just about everything, and the motd fails to show at all. Tried .jpg, just the url links, nearly every html code I could find. I guess this must be a valve issue...

Yes I have tried the downtown, l4dtoolz and bebop all to no avail, and all with the latest SM/MM updates. I will continue trial & error, but it seems there are a LOT of people having this issue...

My server will also only allow 4 (human) players to connect, even though the server says 4/8. It seems I'm not the only one with this problem...
