Ethics discussion: advertising?
In the rules for the plugins stands:

What do you guys think? Btw, have been using CSDM for a few days and I am very happy with Bailopans work. No disrespect ;) |

But still, people shouldn't have to do that.

Re: Ethics discussion: advertising?
BAILOPAN is the creator of CSDM and the owner of this site. I think he is allowed to break whatever rules he wishes in his plugins. I haven't used CSDM or played on a server with it in some time, but can you perhaps post the advertisment for those of us who are to lazy to go find it ourselves?

Re: Ethics discussion: advertising?
You completly misunderstood the point of the rule saying about advertising. In many cases the people are advertising something to get some benefit for them-selves (for example for money if more people are visting any particular page). That is not allowed. Since Bailopan is paying his-own money to keep this forum working on some server, he is allowed to advertise his (CSDM/AMXX) web page related. The link to csdm main page is also to help the people how to install it and where to download it from.
In other words - if You want to advertise in Your plugin this (forum) and the main amxmodx web page - that is allowed (since Your plugin is amxx based). If You want the people to come to Your server - to get more money for that or to get more players - this is not allowed. I hope that's clear now for You. |
Re: Ethics discussion: advertising?
In the rule, it refers to things that have nothing to do with a potential plugin. For instance, http://bailopan.net has information regarding CSDM, whereas http://myg0t.com has nothing to do with AMX Super. Even putting your website isn't really that big a deal, just asking for money is. It's also okay to post a PayPal link in the plugin thread, but not in a print message for the plugin.

Re: Ethics discussion: advertising?
Thanks for your responses.
I personally feel that plugins should not advertise in chat at all. Even if it points to the website of the plugin, if all plugins did that then it would become a great mess to enter a server, as most servers run up to 15 plugins. That's why I felt that the way I interpreted the rule, made the rule a good one. I understand however, that others may not share my views. And I respect that the rules allow this kind of advertising. |
Re: Ethics discussion: advertising?
Well, CSDM is pretty massive and I agree to an extent that you shouldn't be able to spam the chat too much. There are other plugins which are relatively big which do this as well, and I think that's acceptable.
