When you create a cvar, you can specify a min/max value which the engine enforces. I'm not sure if sourcemod provides the ability to change this, but that would probably be the step needed.

You can spawn more than 4 survivors using ChangeClientTeam and switching between infected and survivor a few times. The bot takes over when you switch from infected to survivor, and using the function bypasses the check for how many survivors are on one team. It's funny playing with 20 survivors on one team :mrgreen:

I've attached code bl4nk wrote a while ago, but slightly changed it to include the cvar's description (if there is one) and the current value. If you want all variables instead of just locked ones, just remove the check for the development cvar flag.

If anyone is interested in the results of my test: They were completely identical. Whether a game is public or friends only does not appear to be a public or hidden cvar.

I have no frickin' clue how to change that, except to use the lobby to access my server with sv_search_key, which is really flakey. 30% success rate (Which improves if I restart my server and client)

Based on my experience with sv_search_key, your client gets the master list of servers and then looks through that for servers with a matching key. My home DSL totally flakes out if I try to use the server browser and queries time out, so if I try to list servers my list is way shorter than it should be and the servers that do get listed have massively inflated pings. When I play with friends, I get someone with a better connection than mine to make the lobby and set the key. I don't know if lowering your client's rate would help with queries.

There appear to be some features which are only accessible if you start your game with a lobby, such as setting the game friends-only/public, and choosing to start a versus match or coop game if the server is not already set to that.

You can always setup your own match and then find a Dedicated Server or run a Local server.

If you want to connect to a specific third party server, you will have to use their current setup.

There doesn't appear to be any way to toggle a server (Local or otherwise) between friends-only and public without using the lobby. What you seem to be telling me is that feature is simply not available to me unless I allow your software to pick a server at random.

I've always been impressed with the third party server support of Valve games, and that was a major factor in my decision to purchase Left 4 Dead. I'm EXTREMELY disappointed here, and I don't think I'm asking for something unreasonable. I can't be the only customer of yours who wants to play on a server hosted by my clan/group, and people in my situation are being denied a feature that seems pretty elementery and essential.

Can you at least get me an explanation of why such a simple feature was omitted? Is there some technical limitation I'm not seeing that prevented you from just adding a third selection to the local/dedicated pull down menu?

UPDATE:
I just got this one today.

"I am sorry but this is not an option for Left 4 Dead at this time. You would need to connect to this server first and then your friends can join your game in progress."

The answer shows that there still seems to be some difficulty understanding what I'm talking about even though I worded it three different ways :/ Oh well... at least it's finite. I'm going to ask this guy if there's some way to escalate the problem to a bug, or otherwise make sure someone from outside of tech support hears about it.

I tried cranking up that maximum allowable search ping (sv_search_max_ping or something like that) as well as the max search results way up... and it seemed to greatly improve results.

Those can be accessed/changed using sm_cvar command. You can even put it into autoexec.cfg. Example:

Nice Valve. If this is still in there then there has to be some way to bring up the buy menu, right? That would be a sick mod, you get say a buck for each zombie you kill and $100 for each boss infected, and more for special boss's like the tank. Then the players can buy their own upgraded weaps!

@develsreject: I wouden't think so, I believe the only way to add more survivors is to add boss infected then force change-team them. Things can get really messed up like that, but its fun when you have a 6 person LAN party and nobody wants to be infected! :D Its funny the game takes the abuse and dosen't crash or anything! Plus, if you wanted to have more then 8 people join your server, you'd need something like this.

yup, pretty much a phail lobby plus a phail support staff.

this was driving me nuts for weeks.
the workaround for me was:

- create the lobby with sv_search_key set
- turn sv_search_key blank
- wait till it populate
- set the the sv_search_key again
- launch the game, wait it load, turn the sv_search key off again

its working pretty well for me, maybe you could try it.

This is awesome. Francis gets a laser sight with increased accuracy, Louis reloads faster, Zoey gets extra HP, and Bill seems to do more damage and vaporizes zombies. The only related cvars are
survivor_upgrade_reload_duration
survivor_upgrade_reload_shotgun_duration
though, which is unfortunate because the upgrades are far from balanced. Zoey gets 150 HP, Bill does (double?) damage, louis reloads twice as fast by default, and Francis is waaay accurate. Is there ANY way to tweak the other character's traits?

edit: the upgrades seem to apply to different survivors randomly on the second level. There seem to be even more upgrades than this. One of them is increased magazine capacity, and every level there's a text dump in the chatbox that lists something about which upgrades are active ( I think). I hope someone makes a plugin that takes advantage of this.

Here's a plugin that can give out the upgrades. Caveats: only works for Linux, I'm not supporting it, and you have to set survivor_upgrades 1 yourself to make upgrades work at all.

It seems like only some of the upgrades work. If you add an upgrade and get a message in chat about it (one of the ones from the top of the ampasted stuff), it worked. If it says nothing, it doesn't work (or you forgot to turn survivor_upgrades 1).

I don't know what the deal with skills are. Probably just not completely implemented by Valve. I didn't get any affects other than not being able to move, either.

I have try to put sm_cvar survivor_upgrades 1 in server.cfg but I not see Zoey with 150hp or Francis with Laser Sight. Have also try to put plugin l4dmmo over server linux and server windows. Nothing.

Only in Coop i have rewrite sm_cvar survivor_upgrades 1 in no mercy 1, and to begin no mercy 2 i read some text in chat, but francis again without laser sight.

Or i need to put also:

sm_cvar L4D_Upgrade_laser_sight_description 1 or something?


EDIT: I have try to find a Cvar for Survivor Health (I want set 150 and not 100, but not find nothing), if with Survivor Upgrades Zoey can have 150, maybe one plugin can set Survivors Health to value in config?

EDIT2: Ok... now works i see upgrades for survivor and is too cool! :)

I have enabled sm_cvar survivor_upgrades 1 in my server.cfg on my linux server, and have tried the cvar for survivor skills set to 1, which as mentioned just stops you in your tracks.


How do you add all of the upgrades at once? How did you get it to work?


For example, what ARE the cvars, besides just the reload duration and how to force the upgrade? I can change the upgrdae value of the reload duration for example, but don't see it because sthe upgrades aren't in effect. Help?

If you get fyren's plugin, you type dumpupgrades

then you type addupgrade #
# being the number before the upgrade in the list.
