Really getting started

I appreciate the tutorial by one of the senior forum members here about getting started in scripting. I'm looking for some different information on how to get started though. I've been programming for many years, but whenever starting a new scripting language or any language really, there's a necessary setup that you need to get your environment running smoothly.

What are the necessary files I need to start scripting. I'm going to need some kind of a compiler, that much I know. A link would be great. Do I need to actually have the <> include files locally so the compiler can do their work, or are those all managed by the SourceMod framework after you drop in the compiled script?

Also, is there a central location for scripting documentation, such as important function calls, available functions, etc. in a wiki or something like that?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1. http://www.amxmodx.org/webcompiler.cgi - or you can compile it locally. Just download the AMXX base package from the downloads page. The compiler is located in ./amxmodx/scripting/. It has the library files that are required in the ./amxmodx/scripting/includes directory.

2. http://www.amxmodx.org/funcwiki.php

Scripting help for SourceMod is this way. :)

I can't think of any languages, which are compiled, that would not require include (header) files at the time of compilation. :?:

Thanks for the information. That's exactly what I was looking for. Sorry for posting it in the wrong forum

Oh, crap! I'm sorry. I thought you were talking about AMX Mod X. I need to start reading more thoroughly before making replies.

Haha, shit. I was wondering why source mod docs were hosted on Amx site. Well, is there any kind of resource like that for sourcemod? Just a wiki of documentation, or is it all kinda just ask in the scripting help forum?

SourceMod documentation isn't hosted on any AMXX site. Allied Modders' forums are aimed at supporting a collection of projects. You can choose to only view SourceMod forums by clicking the appropriate category title on the forum index. Links to SourceMod's documentation are on the left of the SourceMod homepage.
