Creating your own serveR?

Hey all,
I needed some help here.
I tried creating my own server via STEAM(many guys criticize this)
and ofcourse,as 90 % of people say, it did not work.

"couldn't exec banned.cfg
couldn't exec listip.cfg
"sv_contact" is ""
No masters loaded
Using default master
Could not establish connection to Steam servers."

This is all i get all time.
Many people face the same problem, but some can see their own server while others cant.
But i believe i have true bad luck.. I cant see my own server.
Can anybody help me out?
Cheers,
[H]itch

Re: Creating your own serveR?

Type "heartbeat" in your console window.

That, and forward the correct ports.

AHAHAH nice and simple right
First things first if you r running a Steam deticated server its going to take a shit load of your resources form stead i recommend getting a standalone server.
http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.exe
Thats the Program you use to instal a standalone server it uses alot less resources and has fewer bugs cus its updated alot more frequently.
The steps to setting it up are here:
http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-...i=&p_topview=1

Once you get that far post on this thread if you need any help although the site already has everything that you need to know.
PS: pay close attention to the steps becuase if you ask me a question thats awnsered there i will not give you support.

Just wondering, why do you differentiate a dedicated server from a standalone server...aren't they the same...?

HLDS?

Because people laugh when I tell them I'm running dedicated hl1 servers instead of listen servers...

Isn't Dedicated = Stand Alone?

Re: Creating your own serveR?

Stand alone does not require as much resources as the Steam deticated server. Therefore it does not Lag as much. Plus the Stand alone server is not as greatly affected if you play CS or CZ on the same computer as the server, because the server technacly is not connect to your steam files which are used for you games.

You're saying the standalone is not a dedicated server?

The difference is probably an hour of updating and swearing.

Minus the swearing if you know what you're doing.

The difference:
Steam Dedicated => Requires Steam running
Standalone Dedicated => Doesn't require Steam running, but it's still authed through Steam (hence it's not Steamless, even though some idiots think so)

Edit: Genipalla is right though, the Steam Dedicated uses more resources, because Steam is indeed running (d'oh)
