Like I posted on the AMX forum, I hope this doesn't lead to negativity between the two communities in the long run.

Anyway, are you planning on keeping initial compatibility between the two platforms? In other words, will AMX plugins compile under AMXModx?

This has been a highly debated issue amongst the AMX Mod X developers.

Basically, we know that we need to keep basic backwards compatibility in order to provide an initial decent replacement for AMX Mod.

Plugins that use the default AMX Mod modules will be fully backwards compatible.

Plugins that use the following modules will be fully backward compatible:
Quote:

Fun
VexD*
Xtrafun*
MySQL
CSstats
VexD has been replaced with ENGINE.
Xtrafun has been merged into Fun and ENGINE.

We will be including basic stocks (include files) so that the old #include lines are compatible with AMX Mod X to make cross compiling easier.

AMX Mod X is based on AMX Mod 0.9.6j so there are the vault natives

You will NOT NEED TO RECOMPILE many old AMX plugins.

However, anything that uses VexD will not be able to find the new natives, and will need a recompile.

One thing ENGINE does is changes the VexD calls to be more readable.
Entvars_Get_Int => entity_get_int
ENT_SetOrigin => entity_set_origin
et cetera. Although there is a VexD_Utilities.inc file to be backwards compatible, the binaries won't have the new natives.

However, all authors will need to do is post plugin source and the autocompiler will take care of that.

any plugin which uses the fun module need to be recompiled
however er strongly recommend to recompile every plugin

SniperBeamer is correct, there are some changed and/or different fun natives that will break older .amx file. Sources will still compile.

An update: AMX Mod X COMPILED plugins will NOT work in AMX Mod! We are using a newer version of the Small Compiler.

I com from the AMX community and don't think that there will be a war between the two communities.
I see at this time amxmodX like a "newer version" :roll: of amx...
I think too, that many people of the amx community will become a member of the amxmoX community.
But don't forget that:
We have to make it stable( of course lol), and really playable. For exemple, with statsme, it was great at the beginig but they make it so big for our servers witch became so laggy...

So, long life to amxmodX

Well, I like this idea that someoen finally decided and run with it, I would offer help but I dont know where to start if you all needed it, I dont really know how to code but I do know lots of things about phpbb.

Lets hope this version can soon be the version on all servers. I have been waiting for AMX 1.0 for sometime.

Also, just a idea, use the CSStats but make the defaut the STATSX things because that is very much like statsme, hehe

FYI: The reason I joined the AMXmod Dev.Team was that OLO asked if he could include "StatsX" as default instead of "stats"... if it will be part of AMXmodX I don't have a clue but they are welcome to use it...

I am down with this movement. AMX seemed to be slowly fading and some of the negitivity was really burning me out. AMX is far supperior over AdminMOD and ClanMOD so keep up the awesome work!!!

Yes... its great to see all the "old school" coders gather like this.. I remeber when there was frenzy such as this from 0.9.4 to 0.9.6j. That was awesome.. hope somebody wakes DyGears butt up an he gets into it. :D
