CPU-Usage Counter-Strike 1.6 Server - Linux

Hi out there . . .

During the last few days i recognized that my hlds is eating up to 99% cpuusage after about 30 mins after server-start.

I've already uninstalled every Metamodplugin is had, including amxx.

Now even with the "clean" cs-server i get those strage peaks.

My Serverspec:
SuSE-Linux 9.0 - latest patches
Pentium 4 - 2,8 Ghz
512 MB DDR-Ram
20 Players

I dont use any -pingboost-options.
Does anybody have the same problem ?

On the Gameplay it reflects like:
everything works well - peaks are comming - everybody gets a fucked up ping - after about 10-15 seconds the cpu-usage reduces to ~65% - pings are quite stable again.

Still a bit hight - durng startup - even with full slots the cpu-usage is at ~25%.

?!?!?!?

if u dont have a ping booster and your server is is set to priority high
it shouldnt go higher then 5-10% with full server i rarely hit 3-4%
im on windows and have tweaks for it linux i dont know about
maybe the answer is in your cpu specs
is it a server only cpu?
do u also join from the same cpu?
what are the specs ram cpu etc.

AllMassive 09-11-2004 09:26

ehem - read more carefully :D

No, i join remote from my Windows-XP over internet.

Deagle 09-11-2004 09:52

oh sorry just woke up :D
if its a hosted server and you have removed all possible things and still get the same outcome u need to simply contact them or change to a different host
that is way to high and shouldnt even be possible with your specs

usedtobe_wws 09-11-2004 11:11

if you need a westcoast server i sell 32 mans for $20

AllMassive 09-11-2004 20:11

Well . . .beside those "offers" . .. . .

Cause i really want to use my dedicated server - cause i rented it for that purpose.

I recognized this behavior also on some other server i was playing on.

usedtobe_wws 09-11-2004 21:24

How much are you paying for a dedicated server?

AllMassive 09-11-2004 21:31

Come on dude - sell your stuff elsewhere and stop begging.

I told my specs - hardware is alright.

And 3 Terrabyte of Traffic included is hard to beat.

I dont want to talk about prices ....

Please stay on-topic.

try reverting back to metamod 1.17.1. We found that the memory leak on .2 was significantly higher then .1

What other modules/plugins are you running?

AllMassive 09-12-2004 14:00

I am running the 1.17.0X Metamod right now - just downgraded.

But i have the same problem - cpu exhaustes.

Beside amxx 0.16 and Metamod i have NoSeeVar running.

Thats all - but even with no metamod(plugin) installed, i get the same errors.

Its hard to believe to me, that i am the only one having this problem........

The Server was running fine before - strange :/

What? Why must you say things that you know nothing about?

What is "the memory leak?" There was only one memory leak, and it was FIXED in .2. The real memory leaks come from metamod plugins, and since you use AMX, those memory leaks are probably coming from metamod revealing the problems with AMX 0.9.x's module system (which is why we made the new one, memory issues).

Don't blame things on metamod, 99.999% of the time it's the plugins, especially with behemoths like AMX Mod/ AMX Mod X.

very very very true BAILOPAN

AllMassive 09-12-2004 17:34

?

Who started talking about amx ?

Like i mentioned before - even with no metamod installed i got those strange peaks.

Does really no one else have this problem with his Linux-Server ?

:(

BAILOPAN 09-12-2004 17:55

Linux hlds has been known to be weird

DoubleDoom 09-12-2004 19:57

Sorry but hlds was leaking memory big time with metamod 1.17.2. When i went back to 1.17.1 it slowed up.

The linux hlds leaks without any plugins/modules as it is but the rate of leak increased with .2 over .1

AllMassive 09-18-2004 13:10

Heja

Well . .. . . this is what i did and its seems to eliminate my problem:

I downloaded this patched metamod http://koti.mbnet.fi/axh/files/metam...2p10-linux.zip and now everything runs smoothly.

CPU at ~30% - and i am happy again.

Perhaps this helps someone else . . ..

AllMassive 09-20-2004 17:34

..... well . .. its doesnt eliminate the prob....

but it cuts it down.

really helpfull in my case.

Deagle 09-20-2004 21:35

Glad your happy with the outcome
i wouldnt be with a 30% cpu usage that is high as it can get
the % your talking about should be when server is maxed out...
i never been above 10% with full server's' notice the s
but of course it could be anything, cpu specs, server setups...
glad your happy with it :D
Regards

AllMassive 09-21-2004 12:50

Hmmmm...

What are your serverspecs - and the linux distribution + kernel would be nice to know ?!

I'm happy with the 30%, cause i dont run anything else on that server - but you're right. . .. its still very high for a cs server.
