Rate changing questions
Hi everyone, just wanting an answer about rates. I have sent ages searching about rates but cannot find the answer to my questions
I have a few admins on our server who are always asking people to change their rates. Should I install a plugin to change these automatically when people join OR is setting the correct rates in the server.cfg file enough. This is what I have in the server.cfg on the server sv_maxrate 30000 sv_minrate 10000 sv_maxupdaterate 101 sv_minupdaterate 50 sv_maxunlag 0.5 sv_mincmdrate 50 sv_maxcmdrate 101 Will this only allow the client to use values within these limits? or do I still need to change the values on the client side? If I do need to install a plugin, what one would you recommend? I only have metamod and mani installed on the server. Thanks for your time |
Re: Rate changing questions
There are server cvars that force a range of rates on the client.
There are no plugins that will change the rate of a player anymore. |
Re: Rate changing questions
So regardless of what a client has their rates set at, the server will only deliver between the rate values set in the server.cfg?
So I don't need to worry about what clients have their rate set too? |
Re: Rate changing questions
I need to remember the specific cvars to force rate limitations on clients, but they are there (I think they're sv_cl_*) * representing anything
But yes, the server itself should enforce a range. Valve enacted this a few updates ago. |
Re: Rate changing questions
Is this really works?
Cause I have set up everything (25k 101 101 min and max too) but players still have other rates, if i watch thier rates with other plugins... Can somebody do a simple mm plugin to exec the perfect rates in every X seconds on clients? |

I suggest you read my article on rates here before you enforce rates that high. :) http://www.aoagaming.org/index.php?page=rates |
Re: Rate changing questions
Those settings will set the clients to 25K, 101, 101. But it won't change the actual value of the cvar on the client, as far as I know. It's a dynamic change behind the scenes.

Re: Rate changing questions
The valve solution seams to only half work - but it does make a difference when setup correctly to the "overall" performance of a server.
Players are still able to drop their update rates to artificially reduce their latency - so it appears its not completely effective at forcing update values. Whether or not a player can effect their hit reg is another question... |
