Increase Camoflauge?

One thing I have noticed about the Half-Life engine, particularly in Day of Defeat, is the lack of camoflauge in the players. There is no way to "fulfill the role of a sniper" or "hide in the bushes" because from 100 yards away you can be spotted right off the bat.

(Let me just clarify I am not endorsing camping - they style of gameplay I practice in DoD is "realism" where rounds are very long and realistic)

If you look at a player model, it differs from its surroundings greatly. I've narrowed it down to the fact that it is constantly animating, and the movement, although subtle, is noticable right off the bat on any computer monitor, no matter how far away. A player model 100 yards away is like putting an ant on your computer screen - you'll still see it right away.

I've tried altering the transparency of the players to blend in with their surroundings more, and it really doesn't do much difference unless it is so transparent that it's blatantly unrealistic.

So my question for those of you interested in this (or knowledgeable) is how could I possibly stop this constant animating, or make it less noticable?

I would bet that "making it less noticable" isn't possible, but stopping it is.

I've tried hooking AddtoFullPack and setting the frame rate to 0, but that simply does it slower and choppier.

Code:
public plugin_init() { register_forward(FM_AddToFullPack,"fw_addtofullpack",1); } public fw_addtofullpack( es_handle, e, id, host, hostflags, player, pSet ) {      new Float:m_arg1 = 0.0;      set_es( es_handle, ES_FrameRate, m_arg1 ); }

I could attempt to make such a plugin:
Whenever a player steps into a area, the playermodel will start blending in with it's area, not sure if it's possible though, I could try.
;)

LOLZ, Wilson, is asking a scripting question... not for some one to make plugin for him...

@wilson... depending on the surrounds... you can have someone do just a simple model reskin with some different textures...

I did it on de_dust2, lol un realistic, but anyhow... I just used the textures from de_dust.wad and put that on a terrorist model it does help some.

Contact me if you like that idea.

Re: Increase Camoflauge?

Well guys, making this post inspired me to double check myself, and I tried a little more.

On their own, setting ES_Framerate or ES_Frame to 0 do not accomplish this, but they do something...just not this. But together...forces united against evil....it bloody worked. I'm now able to stop the animation of "breathing."

I must say however, it's still relatively easy to notice a player in the same sense that it's easy to notice a func_illusionary.

Is there any way to change that? Make the player model less noticable? I've turned down the transparency a tad bit, but it still seems to change drastically with POV change (moving past it it's as if it updates every frame, whereas walls and landscape do not)

please see attachment.. but then again, you may not like my idea.

also, if you interested, I could just as easily have a permanent transparent model... but is a waste of resources i suppose

I really appreciate the time you've taken to reply and offer suggestion, but I must admit, I was seeking another avenue for accomplishing this.

My goal is not to "camoflauge" the player in the literal sense as much as it is in the figurative sense. In real life, you could lay in a field or bush and from 20 feet away, if you were standing still, someone walking by would not notice you. Granted they're not expecting someone hiding, but regardless that is near impossible to do in these games currently, and I'm wondering why and if there's a way to alter that.

If you walk by a player model you will notice him - at close range it's because you know the map like the back of your hand, but at long range...there's a different explanation -- you see the model like a func_illusionary, updating every frame as you walk by, unlike its surroundings, and it sticks out. That is what I'd like to change.

very true... I was thinking about dod_forest... that would be easy to camoflauge the snipers... darn city maps...

I'd venture to say that there's almost nothing that you can do. You're comparing the visual differences between a 1996 video game engine and real life.

Re: Increase Camoflauge?

you could use kRenderTransAdd. okay its not a real camoflauge, but it will look like it
