Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
24 mb/sec 100mb cable and 1.81 Ghz, 768 MB RAM, Windows XP + SP2, 100 GB free space,
Well this is pretty annoying, but.. I have AMXX + Metamod + SH + Team Balance + Stat me + GameGuard + PodBot (not always). And when i play on the server (accessing through global ip) its fine (even with my bots), but when other players from out of my town joins. BIG LAGG.. is there a solution to this? I tryed Ping Booster but it made it lagg more... Oh. btw i have windows firewall off and i got Norton SystemWorks(it has inbuilt firewall, is that making any difference?) |
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
rent a server.
I dont know why you guys really attempt to host a server with mods on it off of a cable connection. |

There is nothing wrong with most peoples cable connection. I run a 28 slot server with no lag running 20 3rd party plugins on Roadrunner. @Daniell_ What is your upload speed? Norton does take up a lot of resources. |

1 Gig ethernet switch... Cat 6/1g ethernet cable... But I thought internet goes only 700kb upload/3meg download commericially, and that the T3 connection was 3mb up and download... *scratch scratch* |
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
This is my speed which like said in the above post of mine....causes no lag
Last Result: Download Speed: 12877 kbps Upload Speed: 945 kbps |

Now back to the main topic about reducing lag. Remember that the average cs client will need about 4kbytes of upload from the server to maintain a lag free gaming environment. To get the exact usage use net_graph 4 or a similar command and take a look at the bandwidth usage. As for 24mbit cable. It is possible under the any of the cablelabs docsis standards. Only problem is that most home routers cannot handle this. Not only this, but most providers probably won't supply this speed to the end user. DOCSIS Downstream Upstream 1.0 38 Mbps 10 Mbps 2.0 40 Mbps 30 Mbps 3.0 160 Mbps 120 Mbps As for the core internet speed: The internet runs really really fast. The school district that I used to attend has a dual fiber connection that gives them over 100mbits symmetric internet access. I administered 2 servers on gigabit ethernet connections on the high school campus and was able to obtain things like the entire fedora core install dvd in about 10 minutes. I remember getting a peak of 10 mbytes / sec download / upload. (Of course this is using the latest cisco routers with fiber backbones within the school district). Hippo |

Are you playing on the server on the same computer? |
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
It happens, never tested without playing on server (will test now)
|
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
I got it working now, but can i run 2 servers at one computer the same time with no lagg?
Other players joined but they made it lagg.. when my friend was playing it wasn't lagging.. but when i kicked the "laggers" he could play again, is this a connection prob or a comp prob? |
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
My recommendation... don't host a server...
I can run two 32 man servers full with no lag though... AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+ 2.20 GHz, 1.50 GM of RAM2 Download Speed: 5021 kbps (627.6 KB/sec transfer rate) (4.9 Mb/sec) Upload Speed: 1448 kbps (181 KB/sec transfer rate) (1.4 Mb/sec) I just had to. <snipped pic> |

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
100 mb upload would be over 1000$ a month unless your renting it from a company like CI host etc. You do not have a 100mb upload connection from your local home, garunteed.

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
The lag from your server is, most likely, coming from it being hosted on your home cable connection.
Either rent a server, or deal with it. Quote:

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
Simply look at the cpu and memory usage. Also check for crazy HD activity. These things will tell you if its the computer or the network connection.
In my experience, running a server on windows generally requires less cpu / memory than running one on a linux server. I have run a 20 player CS server on a 1.6ghz amd with 768mb ram with no problems. In any case, home internet connections are somewhat iffy since they are not always perfect. They may be fast, but packet loss, cheap routing, can cause problems. Thats why I used a dedicated 3.2ghz p4 HT with 2gb ram on a 100mbit pipe (burstable to 100mbit, with 10mbit guaranteed) located in a real datacenter for my gaming servers. Hippo |

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
My LAN server currently runs on a 5 year old computer with 128 mb RAM, and p3 proc and run just fine with about 6 or 7 people...

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
Well i discoveried that it might be my internet, we just got a 24mb/s and i just got a cable..
BUT, when i run the server, my comp does fine, i can play other games same time. |
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
Cable can't host a decent server... At least road runner can't. Almost all computers nowadays can host an HLDS server just fine with nearly no lag provided you have the right internet connection.

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
are you swe, cus if so i can explain more exacly
|
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
What do you mean by am I sure? I'm just pointing out I once tried to host a server on a road runner cable internet connection at my cousin's house. They weren't home that week so no one was using the internet. The server did fine till about the 7th or 8th person, then the ping started going to around 200-300 for most people.

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
not sure, SWE(swedish)
|
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
LMAO thought it was a typo. No I'm in the USA and I'm not swedish.
|
Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
aww.. but ill try, i got a "line", "wire" that is plugged in the back of my comp, to a hub and the hub is connected to a router and then the router is plugged out to the station (bout 10 meters from our house).
Can you see any connection issue in this lineup? |

Re: Is there a way to turn server NO lagg?
Wow, either the internet connection had something wrong or yours was really really good... I'm just saying what I know.
