Computer problems

I have 3 computers:
1) Pentium 4 2.2 Ghz 768 MB (DDR) ram, Nvidia GEForce4 MX 4000
- only supports PCI graphics cards
2) Celeron 2.6 Ghz 512 MB (DDR) ram, Intel onboard video
- only supports PCI graphics cards
3) Athlon MMX 1.0 Ghz 256 MB (SDR) ram, nvidia geforce fx 5700
- supports PCI and 1 AGP slot.
- SDR ram is expensive...
- 3 SDR ram slots

My dilemma:
I want to play my newest game Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth TWO. I need:
Processor: 1.6 Ghz MINIMUM
RAM: 256 minimum, 512 highly recommended
VIDEO: * ATI Radeon 8500, 9100, 9200, 9250, 9500, 9550, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300, X600, X700, X800, and X850.
* NVIDIA GeForce 6200, 6600, 6800, FX 5200, FX 5500, FX 5600, FX 5700, FX 5800, FX 5900, FX 5950, PCX 5900, Ti 4200, Ti 4600, and Ti 4800, GeForce 3
* Intel 900 and 950

All of those graphics cards are supported. So, essentially, my computers suck but I either need to upgrade or buy a new computer - what do you guys recommend?

For example, I could go buy a new graphics card for my Pentium 4 that is PCI and then I could play the game on that. Or, I could get a new processor and ram for my amd athlon. Or, I could get a new motherboard, processor, and ram for my amd athlon.

Maybe you have some good ideas for me, preferrably cost-efficient.

stop weasting money on old computers. Buy a new very expensive one that you will not need to upgrade for about 4-5 years

Well that solves that problem.

grab the pci graphics card. Most likely the cheapest.
And upgrading the AMD's motherboard is probably the most expensive.

That's exactly what I did. I have a PCI Nvidia 5500 256 MB on order. Should be here soon. Now, I also have 768 MB of ram compared to 512. I didn't notice any difference in computer speed after switching 512 MB ram from 266 Mhz to 400 Mhz so I took it out and put 1 512 MB 266 and 1 256 MB 266 back in.

Thanks for the good ideas.

offtopic but i just remember this one commuinty(realy old) they use to run surf servers like 4 of them and they advertise by saying "come check out our game servers running from the latest and best ded box's and they have the agp video cards" man that was a realy good joke but they were realy dum they thoughts having a v-card in the box will make the server run better

Cost efficient : get another second hand motherboard for your Pentium 4 (which is the best out of your three options) with AGP support and get a second hand ATi 9800 Pro or XT. Won't cost you more than $ 80 if you search thoroughly. Don't expect the game to run fluently at the highest settings though.

In all other cases you would have to upgrade both your CPU and VGA, doing not so will make either your old VGA or old CPU the bottleneck.

You are an idiot.

I am actually PARTIALLY doing what you said - I am getting a new CPU for free (Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz) which will bottleneck, but so does EVERY intel because intel sucks. And, I have a Nvidia PCI FX 5500 256 MB on order.

Total cost: $54

Right now, my specs will be:

Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz
768 MB 266 Mhz Ram
Nvidia geforce FX 5500 PCI 256 MB

Personally, I think this was my best choice. My CPU bottlenecks as it is, but hey, hopefully a NEW 3.2 Ghz pentium 4 will help. Mine is really old (4 years) whereas the 3.2 Ghz is maybe 1-2 years old... If I need too, I might get 2 512 MB 400 Mhz ram.
