Good idea.
I also think (prepared for the rants) to provide ReadMe's and other descriptive files in .rtf or .pdf format, rather than .txt format. This will allow coders to customize their content (such as font enhancements such as 'bold' or 'underline') to make their notes/warnings stand out. Another idea is to provide a LOT more to .chm help files. Such as providing error code lists, troubleshooting methods, an FAQ and so forth. By providing these things, a lot of the admins' time can be spent coding rather than answering questions continuously. I believe that a FULL help file and .rtf files will prove beneficial for the community. You never know where that next big idea comes from. I've seen off and on that a lot of good ideas are abandoned due to a lack tools provided to the general public, or more simply, a lack of technical 'know-how' such as understanding error codes. |
Ooooh....
What about a few admins and a VB programmer get together to provide a generic Small script generator with an included compiler? |

The original post was about automated installers - most likely this will be the case at some point.

Sorry Bail. I'll start a new thread.

I vote for source-only distribution. No binaries, no installers, just source.

I vote for beating you over the head with a loaf of french bread
