Few things about dedicated servers

Hello guys,
I want to ask you few questions about gamehosting.

1. What's recomanded to use for gaming: windows OS or linux ? (and why)
2. Should I use 32 or 64 bit version ?
3. How do I optimize my server for gamehosting?

Thank you in advantage.

1. Whatever you are most comfortable using. (/flamewars)
2. Doesn't matter since srcds runs in 32 bit.
3. I'll leave it to other csgo server operators to answer this one.

1.I personally use windows because i have more knowled with it and some functions/extensions work only with windows, anyway, normaly linux is better than windows exept u know how to config windows rightly.

2.64 bit (when ur system supports this)

3.There are lots of possabilitis, dependent on what u want to do/host, also its important what hardware u have, as example: an old :crab: laptop - replace the old heat paste and clean it

For question 3 some more informations are needed

As you didn't mention a specific game, it would be kind of hard to help you with anything tied to a specific game.

In regards to your question about the operating system, Linux / Windows / Mac, you will always end up getting a flame war between Linux lovers, Windows lovers and Mac lovers with such a question. Everyone will always say the one that they love is the best, even if anything else gives a better performance.

However, if you want any kind of "statistical data", then you can see in this thread, where I posted a operating system scan of the Top 50 servers at www.gametracker.com for several games ~5 months ago.

The scan revealed that the Linux OS was housing ~70-88% of all servers running CS:S, CS:GO and TF2 at that time.

Hello and thanks for your reply. I want to use for more games like CS:GO, rust, red orchestra and / or arma 3.
