Failed with result code 3

Who else is having issues fetching the new TF2 update through Linux? Did Volvo change something in the updating process or?

I haven't been able to fetch or verify updates for the past two days, and that's after having deleted all of the Steam-related folders and getting a new copy of SteamCMD.

we had the same problems with csgo last night... there are still several servers down and you will have to go into your steamupdater config and remove the several 208 IPs and fetch the update when you do the config will be fixed no need to back it up.

Good thing you mentioned this. I hadn't checked my server last night and looking at my updater log, I see this:

Code:

Connecting anonymously to Steam Public...Login Failure: No Connection
FAILED with result code 3

Mind you, this is checking every 5 minutes for an update and attempting to update it if my server is out of date, so this has been going on for over 12 hours now.

Just saw this on hlds_linux:

(Edit: This is apparently just quoting what hamilton5 already linked to.)

Someone posted this workaround on csgo_servers yesterday:

Hi, I have a temporary workaround for Steamcmd failing to connect/login. My server is in New Jersey, and has been unable to login to Steam for many days now. The following worked for me:

1. In your steamcmd directory, make a backup of config/config.vdf
2. Open config/config.vdf and find the IP addresses listed under InstallConfigStore -> Software -> Valve -> Steam -> CM
3. Remove the IP addresses starting with 208.* (note that the addresses are delimited by semicolons)
4. Re-run steamcmd and login

Again, this is only temporary, and you should restore the backed-up copy when things are back to normal.

Edit: Forgot my own hlds_linux post:

The path on Linux is likely ~/Steam/config/config.vdf regardless of where the actual steamcmd binary is installed.

I deleted my SteamCMD and Steam folder completely and started over. Now there isn't a config/config.vdf file path. Would someone be kind enough to supply this .vdf file?

here is a copy of config.vdf with the 208.* servers removed. I was able to update my server with this.

Thank you. I'll give it a whirl soon! :bacon!:

Of course, unless you set the file read-only, steamcmd will add the 208 servers back the next time it checks itself for updates.

This is correct. I found this out after I updated, it seems to have downloaded and overwrote the one I modified. When all the steam servers are back online this will actually go a good thing.

Prior to experiencing this problem I had noticed that the # of US servers online fell from 53 to 44. Then I started getting the code 3 errors.

Looks like either someone pulled the plug over at Valve Co. or they retired a few of the dedicated servers without notice.

I am not subscribed to the HLDS mailing list. Did anybody mention anything like this?
