You would think that Valve would have fixed it by now :/ Never mind that.
Valve claims to have fixed it on 17/12/2010 however people are reporting, in this topic, that the bug still occurs.

Players simply fall through the elevator on No Mercy map 4 if any physic prop goes through them.

This plugin will check the survivors Z position compared to the elevator. If lower, the plugin will teleport them up to the elevators Z position.

Description:
Provides a work around for the current bug with players falling through the elevator on No Mercy

Cvars:
No configurable cvars.

If i remembered correctly going into idle mode while in the lift will also kill you.

Well... it CAN happen on Hard Rain's elevator too (when it goes up). However I can't replicate it, seems really random.

However I don't really feel its that big of a problem, but if people request, sure I can add it to the plugin.

it happened to me in a comp match...

if any of the infected stand on the elevator railing (left side when coming from the gas station), and touch you, while the elevator tries to go up, you will drop through.

but agreed, its very rare, so the fix isn't really needed.

I put this plugin on my server a few days ago, and someone just informed me a player started lagging out, and when they recovered, they had fallen through the elevator.

Different symptom than what this fixes, and I'm not sure how catchable it is when they're not sending updates to the server.

There was only this one time someone fell through without the plugin catching him, but only once. It seems to work pretty fine for me.

Any error logs?

Otherwise, I would guess the server still saw the client as normal, while the client predicted they would fall through and the client correct them self to fall through.

In that case, nothing much I can do.

That's what I thought. The server didn't receive any position updates from them, and they fell and died before their connection was restored.


I guess the extreme could be adding a teleport trigger to the bottom of the elevator shaft that teleports to wherever the elevator currently is.

And yes, it sucks that the community has to make a fix first and then a couple of later Valve fixes it while they could've done it weeks ago:|

I've been hearing that Valve didn't actually fix this properly. Haven't seen it myself yet, but if someone here can confirm I think we could re-approve this plugin.

We used to drop common infected while the elevator was going up but that do no longer seem to make them fall down. But when we tried tank in the elevator, 5 ppl fell down through the floor :)

I am unable to make the survivors to fall through with "normal means".

Molotovs, pipebombs, vomitjars, gas cans, oxygen and propane tank just clip through the survivor and land on a lower level which can be picked up again once the survivors reach the top.

Confirmed. People still fall through the elevator. I saw it just once but I got reports from other people as well.

Btw that's on 20 versus. Don't know if it happens on vanilla.

same. i've also seen a bot (bill) falling trough the ground. (caused by a thrown bile)

It happens on vanilla still, saw it myself about 8 times in the last 2 months.

Last time i saw it was 5 days ago two games in a row on 2 different hosted servers (vanilla) player fell through the elevator both times.

Have installed this and i even posted on the steam forums about this plugin working out what valve havent, Kudos to Mr. Zero for the fix!

Almost had half an elevator of players fall through on a 10v10 and they all got put back inside the elevator.

You're right. This was my bad. I removed the invisible walls using stripper to fix another bug but that made it possible for SI to jump into the elevator shaft, when they then hit a survivor he was falling down :wink:

last night on my server 4v4 normal vs some guy was wobbling then he went above the lift then at the top he died and raged (who can blame him) so still not fixed :cry:

I'll admit, this is a bit overkill, but it definitely prevents any cases of the survivors managing to fall through (although I probably can't say the same for the decoys), even if it becomes immersion-breaking. Oof.

The way this plugin works is by creating a static clone of the elevator located in an obscure place in the skybox, attaching teleports to the elevators that activate upon either the button press or the real elevator reaching a floor.
Using the original version as a base, I ended up discarding most of the code from there and used the I/O system for a lot of things.

Code:

WARNING: This is potentially incompatible with the other, original fix version.
Not really tested, but in theory, the original plugin will keep teleporting survivors very high up in the skybox once they get moved to the fake elevator,
and once the original fix feels like it did it's job it will release the survivors, giving them all a very uneventful death.

I made this plugin after Tsuey, a member of the L4D2 community dedicated to improving the game that Valve has 'left for dead', joked about using a fake elevator after discussing methods to fix the still-ongoing elevator bug that has claimed many survivors.

-= ConVars =-

l4d2_coopelevatorfix_team4 [0/1] = Create 'The Passing' bots to take places in real elevator to attempt to fool Infected players. Cannot adjust for actual survivors, and can bug out.

-= Bugs =-

- Lighting for the survivors in the fake elevator will end up looking unnatural.
- Flashlights will begin to flicker inside the fake elevator.
- The plugin does not account for any changes to the survivor group from the intended L4D1 set when using decoys for Versus.
- <Potential> The method of detecting the decoys may have a chance to fail.
