Yes. Namecheap is just your domain registrar. They have no control over any aspect of your site except for the DNS (which couldn't block anything SourceBans related without shutting down the entire site).

A lot of the sites mentioned in the first post are either saying I need a VPS account or that they just don't offer it. The support for a lot of them seems very inconsistent as well.

247-host.com - Said they can only offer a max of 5 open ports and only on Platinum package (shared)
dreamhost.com - Didn't understand what I was asking and their support seemed to think I wanted to host my servers with them...

The rest have either replied or haven't replied yet, I'm ideally looking to see if anyone could post a host they are using now?

You can add 5wire.co.uk to the whitelist. I used them a short time ago. Fully compatible with Sourcebans and support will even go the extra mile in setting up some dependencies. HLStats works well too (Related Sorta) xD

Ok, add www.crocweb.com to the blacklist. They now block all UDP traffic due to DDOS attacks.

Site5 should be on the VPS list now, not shared....I just asked their support and they said they will only open ports on managed or unmanaged VPS accounts.

3ix.org will only open port 3306 -- this SHOULD be all that's needed, correct? My last host, I seemed to have to have the client ports open as well.....27015, etc....

- netvirtue.com.au

I have asked them if it ok to use it on shared hosting, and they said no the ports is blocked on shared hosting. Only way to get them is on VPS for Australian webhosting for anyone who is from Australia.

Thanks for the suggestion. I signed up with 5wire today, I can confirm they are okay with opening ports on shared packages.

http://www.hosting.co.uk/ - They will open ports, but they don't allow remote SQL connections on their shared hosting. VPS is fine.

You can add http://www.clanplanet.co.uk/ to the white list, got the cheapest package is at £3 with free subdomain. They were happy to allow my game severs IP's through their firewall. They even offered they will set up everything for me if order hosting for 12 months, but i manage to set it up by myself.
Mind to ask them if they will be happy to allow yout IP's prior ordering though.

I can run Sourcebans on webspaces hosted on www.all-inkl.com. If you're based in Germany, this is not just one the most stable hosters I encountered over the years, but also you get good value for your money.

You cannot have them open ports, there is only so much you can do with shared hosting, but Sourcebans works fine without adding any extra ports.

I can recommend that.

Not sure what qualifications a host needs for the white list, however http://vexxhost.com/ has been excellent for myself. Don't know if they offer shared hosting, I have a dedicated server.

I don't maintain the list, but I would assume that whitelisted hosts would need to offer shared hosting that works with SB. Basically any dedicated/virtual server will work since the customer generally has total control.

This list needs to be updated, as it has become uncorrect over time.

I'll advise anyone to research into the privilegies available, by their hosting plan (shared hosting, vps, dedicated) before even attempting to install anything. Also you NEED root access to the mysql, for it to connect probably (many plans do NOT offer this). Also your gameserver port must be accessible to establish a working connection. UPD and TCP ports.

Don't get me wrong. Sourcebans is a masterpiece, however it lacks of support and is in mowt cases not likely to work properly, if you do not know, what your doing, down to every point. It can be VERY, time consuming to get working, for a non-advanced web user.

Just my thoughts, to inform people like myself, who were new to this stuff.

The problem with nfoservers is that they traffic shape. It's not a preferable option for web hosting because transfer speeds are slower on average. Other providers may work better for web host. Aggressive upstream filters for DOS (denial of service) mitigation hurt transfer speeds.

Stability is more important than transfer speed for game servers because the UDP (User Diagram Protocol) is relatively low bandwidth. As many people as possible are also crammed onto their preferred transit provider. It's low ping, stable and low cost, but the transfer speeds are very sub-standard.
