I am looking to create a robust anti-intrusion server that would be resilient if I got the DDos

This is usually provided by the data center your box is hosted in. I'm not too aware of anything YOU can do on your server to protect against a real DDoS attack. Not a source bug (which I think are worked out anyways). Contact your server provider and ask if its an option. Most data centers now days come with DDoS protection at a premium cost.

If you're hosting out of your basement then I can't help you.
