Yup, it's a... release change!

The schedule for 0.20 has been messed up a bit (again) due to last minute features and developers going on vacation, so we're changing release policies for now and the future.

While AMXx 0.20 is complete, it hasn't been tested to the extent we'd like. So we've decided to start releasing the RCs (release candidates) to the public. These betas will be "development" editions and aren't recommended for average use (so they will not be supported) - however it is a great way for us to get feedback from people who have the time to test them out, and it also gives developers a huge help in preparation.

We'll start by putting out 0.20-RC2 either tomorrow or a few days after. Depending on the reports we get back, we'll release 0.20-Final in a week or two (IRC stuff will occur then).

Sorry for this, but a strict release cycle is too much stress for an Open Source project. I hope you can all understand, and the die-hard people that were refreshing for 0.20 will have it in their hands soon enough to try out.

--------------------
New features we've added since the original release announcement:
  • Fakemeta Module has been greatly extended and can hook/forward almost any Half-Life engine function
  • Extended/revamped portions of the Multi-Lingual system (better formatting allows for things like "%d %L %08s")
  • Optimized Engine for speed and certain portions of Core
  • You can now write plugins in a new language, Small-Assembly (hardcore scripting :) )
  • Translated Plugins into over 10 languages!
(special thanks to mahnsawce, fsfod, Translation Team)

Hey, you'll still have it, and your testing will make the final version even more bug-free !

BAILOPAN 08-13-2004 21:29

This release policy will continue into the future - we'll be spitting out beta packages faster from now on I hope :)

all good with me, i will do my best to be a beta-beta tester ..... wow now only if i was on the testing team things would be even more better.

You will get feedback from me about the any mishaps, or goodhaps, now to wait till you release the rc amxx 0.2

and i agree with the timed release dates, perferablly myself, i would have kept it hush hush, till you was ready to have it released, so people dont get so ants, and keep bugging you about it

The lesson here is NEVER announce release dates for open source software.

You're actually going to release code? wow..

I figured you guys would:

a) Fall off the face of the earth before releasing new code.

b) Wait around for the AMXz project to spring up.

c) Release your code the day before they release theirs..

oh wait, that'd be those other ......
