Need help determining your rates? Look Here

Okay, since I am tired of people making topics asking what rates they should use instead of searching for their own answers, I am making 1 topic for all rate help topics. So, if you need help figuring out what rates you should have, post here but read through the thread first as there will most likely be useful links posted by others.

Any threads that are made asking about rates will be trashed or merged into this one (depends on my mood when I see it).

If helpful links/posts are made, I will link to them in this thread so others can hopefully see it without re-asking it

What? Linux has nothing to do with you bandwidth speed.

I believe he's having hard time to go to the website via linux.
On windows you can just type www.speedtest.net in a web browser and see results.
But also I dont have any idea to how to that on linux (ubuntu 7), so I'd pretty happy if someone would told me how to do it.

I've set up rates depending on our PC and approx. bandwith that ISP promised, but I do experience slight lags in-game (and it's not PC problem, it's damn powerful to hold holy crapload of servers)

Linux has a internet browser as well.... Unless you don't have any GUI stuff and it is only CLI.

Re: Need help determining your rates? Look Here

Why would anyone with only the CLI at his/her disposal be unsure about the available bandwidth? If you're running a server on a machine at home with the CLI only, you probably have another, GUI-enabled computer on which you can do all kinds of silly tests. If your server is located in a datacenter, you hopefully know what you're paying for.

Anyway, if you only have the CLI, you can use wget, ftp or mc and many many more programs.
