Source though the latest CS:GO update improved it a lot.

GoldSource was and still the best. its best game is Conter-strike Condition Zero: new textures and models, awesome realistic hostages, without being different than the legend CS 1.6
and for those who find it too old, my answer is:

I quite like CS:GO, to be honest. But I've also preferred CS 1.6 over CS:S the whole time.

Oh, that's not a choice? Well, the only one I've played more than 5 minutes is CS:S, and that was playing Gungame. I suppose I should try CS:GO's Arms Race mode at some point and see how well it works (I already own CS:GO to do plugin testing... which I still haven't done).
