Is ProtectCMDs extension safe?
A Counter-Strike Source server I play on has been being targeted every night for the last week with an exploit that causes players to disconnect with a "Buffer overflow in net message" error.
I found the exploit itself on a cheat website and they share two solutions, either disable voice or use ProtectCMDs Sourcemod extension. Is ProtectCMDs extension safe? I found it on another website, but I don't see it listed anywhere here. |

This? https://github.com/PowerTakeDev/ProtectCmds
You can just read the source code and compile it yourself if you don't trust the version uploaded on the releases section of the page |
Re: Is ProtectCMDs extension safe?
I appreciate the response. Unfortunately it appears that more recent versions have gone closed source, and that's what I need to prevent the exploit.
ProtectCMDS 1.0.6 includes "Voice chat fix for ClientMod users (buffer overflow in net message)." I don't know the rules for posting links, but if you google "ProtectCMDS 1.0.6" you'll find it. |
Re: Is ProtectCMDs extension safe?
SourceMod extensions are required to be released under a GPL-compatible open source license because they include open-source parts of SM. Don't support anyone stealing the hard work of the SM contributors and AM community.
