Is replacing game engines legit, and will i be able to get help if i need?

Hello, everyone. :) If i replace GoldSrc with Xash3D, will that be viewed as legit and legal and will i be able to get help if i need?

I'm talking about this: https://www.moddb.com/engines/xash3d-engine

The description says this:

"Disclaimer: Half-Life & GoldSource are trademarks of Valve Corporation. All Half-Life assets or modded contents are copyright to their respective owners and are protected under international copyright laws. You have to purchase a legal copy of Half-Life to use it with Xash3D."

Yes, i have a legit copy of HL1 and CS1.6. So, is it legal to replace the engine? The whole point of doing so is to get rid of the 'precache 512 limit', which, as far as i know, is extended to 1024 in Xash3D. And if i learn more advanced coding one day, i may be able to further edit the engine and extend the limit even more.

Thanks for your assistance. :)
