What is the best way to stop FTP crackers?

What is the best way to stop people from trying to connect to your FTP, hacking your pass, or using a scanner on you?

Maybe try increasing the password's strength, or control who gets your password (perhaps one of your admins is leaking it :O )

I use strong passwords that are almost completely alpha-numeric, and they are strong enough that sometimes I forget them.

I made this password impossible..

And they got it within 2 hours..

Nobody has access to FTP or my passwords but me.

Ok well now I am changin the subject..I would appriciate all help I can get blocking scanners and such from my FTP.
