[ANY] FastDL storage for $0.005/GB/Month with no bandwidth fees!
 

Hi everyone,

Thought I would share this here as HG switched out our digital ocean fastdl system which was very pricy in comparison to our new BackBlaze solution.

If you didn't know, CloudFlare and Backblaze formed the "Bandwidth Alliance" and they are waiving any transfer fees between B2 Buckets and CloudFlare. (Read more here)

You can follow their documentation and set up your very own fastdl via B2 and Cloudflare:

are you sure there is no bandwidth fee?

The whole thing that makes this 100% cheaper is that there is no download fee when it's pulled through Cloudflare.

would you mind sharing the cost difference?

also doesn't most game server providers provide free fastdl?

This is only if you are running your own dedicated server/VPS or want a faster option than what game server providers provide you with.

DigitalOcean provides 1TB of bandwidth free, with excess data transfer at $0.01/GB.

meister got it bang on. We're looking at probably a $30/m price drop from switching over. We run 3 dedicated machines so this was our option that was good for a cheaper centralized fastdl alternative.

Now mounting it to a remote machine so we could FTP into the B2 filesystem, that was a different story (since we have multiple staff that would need access). Ended up mounting it in a dummy pterodactyl server with S3Proxy -> S3Fuse -> Linux Folder

Just a heads up if you plan on running this for CS:GO, FACEIT anti-cheat seems to block CloudFlare connections from in-game for some reason. Meaning players with FACEIT AC running will not be able to download anything.

Probably still fine to use though, the AC is easy to disable and it doesn't seem to affect too many players (though that may vary depending on gamemode). But just be aware of that to help any players complaining of download issues.

I don't run Source servers anymore; I use your advice for my game's patching service and it works very well! Thank you for posting this.

Definitely try to contact them and open a ticket. I have once already and 'the message was passed on', but I think the more noise we create, the more likely they are to fix their issue. Pretty ridiculous the broad scale that they're controlling on their client's PC's.

Yeah I sent them a ticket the same time I made that post, still waiting for a response though.


Update: Got this back, basically saying "deal with it".
