Not writing to admins.cfg is ok, the plugin pulls from the database. If your database is constantly unavailable, and you absolutely need to rely on admin-flatfile, thats not Sourcebans fault. If you have just 1 server having an issue, go through the configs, maybe you forgot to set the serverid, or maybe you put the wrong rcon passwords in Sourcebans. Do some due diligence before flaming ok?

If you feel that this free software is not doing what you need it to do, dont use it.

For sure i didn't need to be rude and i apologize for it. But i don't really think to be disrespectful by asking if OP care or not about it. Maybe i should've replace "don't care" by something else. I respect his job and tell every admin i know to use his sourcebans fork because he's doing and awesome work and i really like it.

If some posts ago i asked "how admins are written into admins.Cfg" is maybe because i didn't know how it works, don't you think ? So let someone in the unknown while you know the answer isn't really cool also.

Last point, as i said it's a random server each days which isn't workign and all config has been reviewed several times.

I apologize again for OP, maybe my words wasn't the best, i understand that.

The name "CONSOLE" is used in SourceBans when;
a) It doesn't know the identity of the admin who created the ban.
b) It was added by some plugin or RCON command executing servers directly at the server.

In order to fix a), you need to make sure that if you have an admin with STEAM_0:1:2345, that have been added either through admins.cfg, or the admin-sql-* plugins, then you should make sure that admin is ALSO added in your SourceBans to have his admin name display properly there.

To changing the "CONSOLE" name into something else, be it "SYSTEM", community name such as "Example.net", you need to go into your SQL database:

In the sb_admins table, there is an admin with aid 0, per default this admin id has the name "CONSOLE", changing aid = 0 to have another name will make that other name appear on your installation.

Those are session silences which is a part of basecomm.smx -not- Sourcebans. I don't know why, but it does not grab the name of the admin who issued it. If you want your admins names to be displayed, you need to have them use the Comms tab in the /admin menu rather than player options.

I don't know about the family sharing, however, if you search the forums - there have been multiple threads/posts regarding people having issues where it doesn't detect properly. I don't know if it is related to that.

MariaDB: If you read www.sourcebans.net, it tells you "MySQL 5.0" is required. MySQL is MySQL, MySQL is not "something that pretends to be MySQL".

If you have ever been able to run it using any "pretends to be", "forks of", [...whatever] MySQL servers, there is only one reason - you have been very lucky.

Great argument.

So then why are you running a fork of SourceBans?
This is an assumption; because if you are in this thread, and don't run this fork...

The fact of the matter is each version branch of MariaDB is specifically designed to be a drop in replacement for the corresponding version branch of mySQL.

Can I have some more information?

Yea, I don't know why they still say that, since MariaDB is NOT a drop-in replacement.

And this is kinda a Fork, Forks are usually made because the The developer makes a code change that many people don't like.

SourceBans: Reloaded on the other hand is a continuation, since the original devs are mostly inactive.

Glad you like it. I do however seem to understand some kind of irony in your purple text....

Whenever you are running stuff side by side with, on top of, or whatever, then you are not running the things exactly as instructed by the package you are using, in this particular case - SourceBans (and/or it's forks, unless otherwise specified by them).

That is very obvious... And if you don't get it, I'd wish you good luck running anything at all...

If you do not accept the true information you receive, it makes no sense to feed you with "more" information.

Yea, like if a plugin required my version of SourceBans, and people complained it didn't work the the official SourceBans.

That's like a different scenario.

Claiming SourceBans: Reloaded is not a fork is complete non-sense. In fact, you call it such in your very own signature.

Oh yes, let me get right on this. Gonna go download an end of life version of mySQL to appease you.

Anyways, now that we've cleared up why MariaDB isn't "supported", what's the deal with family sharing detection?

Sarabveer 08-02-2015 23:59

Re: [Release] SourceBans: Reloaded 1.5.2F (Updated 2015/05/29)

Yes. It's clearly stated it was never supported anyways.

Watch, next update, where going to have a shit ton of people bickering that our plugin doesn't work with SM 1.6 since we rewrote it with the SM 1.7 syntax.

The Family Sharing Evasion thing had issues. It would ban a player for no reason. It wouldn't detect the players correctly.

Gents,
any thoughts on this?

Code:

Details        [512] Smarty error: unable to read resource: "page_comms.tpl"
Error on line 1094 in file /srv/joinsg/sb/htdocs/includes/smarty/Smarty.class.php

/srv/joinsg/sb/htdocs/includes/smarty/Smarty.class.php - 1255

to clarify, sourcecomms works in game perfectly. We just cant view the bans on the page, this is the log error.

U want us to release a buggy version every month, or a stable one every few months. The project is not dead, ever since the last week, I've been really busy. Thats why I'm looking for coders. I already have 3 guys forking my repo and making their own changes. I'm just waiting for the Pull Requests.

Any idea why these error messages are showing up in the error logs of all my TF2 servers? Were there any changes to SourceSleuth recently that corrected these? I'm using the SourceSleuth version I downloaded with the forked 1.5.2.F Version of SourceBans here from this thread:

Re: [Release] SourceBans: Reloaded 1.5.2F (Updated 2015/05/29)

@ King Cnut:

Error (10061) indicates that the network connection to the MySQL server is refused. Here's some things I would check it I was having this trouble. This would indicate a permissions issue that is not allowing the gameserver to connect to the database. I only post the below info because even the most experience people sometime miss the obvious because we're human and simply over look things some times. Lord knows I have, not that I'm anything special.

1. If this is an existing install and it worked before, I'd ask myself "What did I change recently that could have created this problem?" Some of those things could be:

- Did you recently update SourceMod and overwrite or change the Sourcebans section of \addons\sourcemod\config\databases.cfg?
- Have you recently enabled new firewall settings on the game server that were not enabled before?
- Have you changed your game server's IP address? Does it match what you have your Remote MySQL settings configured on the Webserver?
- Have you recently updated the MySQL database username and/or password on the webserver and do they match what you have in your databases.cfg on the game server?

2. If this is a new install have you double-confirmed the following:

- Confirmed the MySQL database server address, username & password match databases.cfg on the game server
- Confirmed the MySQL port is correct in the databases.cfg
- Confirmed the Remote MySQL settings on the webserver allow the game server's IP address to connect to the MySQL database?
- Have you given all the permissions necessary to the MySQL user to allow to access the database?

I can't see any other reason for the database server and the game server to be unable to communicate unless there's a webserver problem the hosting company needs to fix.

All the best on getting back up and running. Let us know what you find. It will help others I'm sure.

I have this too. I actually removed Sourcesleuth because I am not sure if it was working or not. I recently (like 3 days ago) readded it, and on day 1 had no errors. Since then I still get SourceSleuth errors. I cannot verify if it is working on not.

We recently changed the webserver ip that the MySQL database resides on. I've already granted permissions for my user to access it from the gameserver ip with GRANT and FLUSH PRIVILEGES and it refuses to work. I'm really at a loss as to why this isn't working. I have done this step a trillion times in some 20+ years of working with MySQL databases. I guess we're just going to have to do without sourcebans. Thanks for helping.

There is one thing I don't understand...

If you're having 20+ years with MySQL, the error messages should be perfectly clear to you:

The error (2003) Can't connect to MySQL server on 'server' (10061) indicates that the network connection has been refused. You should check that there is a MySQL server running, that it has network connections enabled, and that the network port you specified is the one configured on the server.
The IP you're attempting to connect to, 104.XXX.XXX.XXX - can you expose the second group's numbers?

Either that IP isn't the correct one for you to use in your configurations, otherwise the MySQL server is not configured properly...

If you're having 20+ years with MySQL, the error messages should be perfectly clear to you:

I don't have an issue with understanding what the error message means. I know exactly what the error means. What I'm failing to understand is how it can be continuing to error when I've granted all the appropriate permissions and have the correct ip address listed.

@ King Cnut

Perhaps increasing the privileges of the MySQL user would help? I don't believe "GRANT and FLUSH PRIVILEGES" will give the access the MySQL user account needs to connect and run correctly with SourceBans. In fact, I don't remember ever seeing anyone restrict the MySQL Sourcebans user account access that way. I don't restrict MySQL user accounts and always use the "ALL [PRIVILEGES]" setting for them. I've never had any problems doing this.

Give it a shot and see...

Okay, what IP address is in your databases.cfg?

Sorry for being vague. I do use GRANT ALL as such:

Code:

grant all privileges on sourcebans.* to 'user'@'188.XXX.XXX.XXX' identified by 'password';
188.XXX.XXX.XXX being the address of my game server.

My database.cfg is listed as this:

Code:

        "sourcebans"
        {
                "driver"                        "default"
                "host"                                "104.XXX.XXX.XXX"
                "database"                        "sourcebans"
                "user"                                "user"
                "pass"                                "password"
                //"timeout"                        "0"
                "port"                        "3306"
        }

104.XXX.XXX.XXX is the webserver ip where my Database resides.

it's prob a firewall issue. did you check your iptables logs (or creating logging rules) verify a rule exists to open 3306? verify your mysql isn't listening on a non-standard port. the error doesnt sound like a permissions issue, it couldn't connect.. = network issue.

to clarify, sourcecomms works in game perfectly. We just cant view the bans on the page, this is the log error.

no one has any thoughts on this? :( everything works 100% to include sourcecomms, we just cant view sourcecomm bans on the page frontend. The error shown is what shows in logs when we try to view. It's cosmetic only, but i'd still like to get any feedback i can :)

What Version of SB, I asked the same question before!

Is it the dev version?
