Kigen filed a DMCA takedown notice, forcing us to remove it or risk all of AM being cut off

It's illegal to distribute until the situation is resolved with Kigen.

*illegal to distribute here, since we've already received a takedown notice for it. Users that haven't been issues a takedown notice or are in other jurisdictions are under different circumstances.

We've not heard from any lawyer on his side, but the DMCA doesn't require that. Anyone can demand that something be taken down and then compliance is required. You have to take it up with that party if you believe anything to be wrong with it.

Kigen is actually working to benefit cheaters (working as an anti-anti-cheat, if you will) by trying to disallow anyone from using SMAC.

so what happens once his coding is replaced, he can't claim ownership of something that doesn't contain his work.

All good I have the latest version for my server :P

But serriously like you mentioned, its not much if any of his code, and just remove the smac_kac_banlist.
It's rather sad it all came to this, and I'm trying my best not to be rude here, but some people need to be a bit more patiant. People have real life's, and do not always have time, even though they have the best intentions to do something in due time.

What other parts besides the obvious "kac_banlist" is "his" ? And is it much work to replace ?

He has no claim to that module.

Mostly fixes for exploits that no longer exist.

So not really a hard issue then.

can't blanks just be distributed by defining an out of date version and requiring the updater to install?

That's probably fine.

Here: (url removed)

It's the same file copied and pasted 17x. The update url is assembled from the file name.

The Updater will replace it with the current stable build.

Yes, it's currently SMAC 0.8.5.1.

Just so you know, you don't have to comply with the DMCA. It's more intimidation then anything else. He will not have the legal basis nor the legal power/money to take this to court. Second, his code was purely written in open source as distributed by sourcepawn scripting. If he wants to claim ownership, he can't use open source code. Any person can fork off his code and he can't do anything about it. If he wants to claim ownership of the plugin, he will have to convert it to closed source coding such as C ++. I would keep distributing this until either a DMCA has been served by official legal staff and/or a court order.

You clearly don't understand either the DMCA nor copyright law.

I remember the day when kigen got banned and started this mess that we can see now.

It's just so bad for the community itself, the server's ownors. Anyway...

I needed install updater.smx to update my smac plugins. Just a question, will the plugins get more updates while this mess or you guys are not allowed to do that?

Re: download removed?

Whatever the situation with updates, it's likely AlliedModders won't be hosting or managing them.

Yes, and the latest version (and source) will always be available for download on the SourceMod Anti-Cheat website.

Is there still documentation on what each .smx does specifically? I forget where that information is located. It used to be on some obscure wiki or something, I forget.

It was hosted on the bitbucket repository which got shutdown.

A clone of the wiki is available here.

Make sure to view the files in a text editor which can properly display newlines without a carriage return (e.g., notepad++).

Definitely the SMAC is as important as the own SourceMod, so if you want to keep your server free of damn cheaters, hope everything is resolved, meanwhile i'll save a backup of the modules of SMAC here.... just hope the FBI does not come knock on my door!

There was a hardware failure at the service provider. Just have to be patient until things come back online.
