[ANY] SteamWorks Game Description Override (v1.1, 2016-06-17)

[ANY] SteamWorks Game Description Override

v1.1

Description:
Since [TF2] SteamTools Game Description Override plugin uses SteamTools, which only officially supports TF2, I figured I'd go ahead and modify it so that it uses the SteamWorks Extension to change the game description.

Please use responsibly.

Cvars:
sw_gamedesc_override_version - Plugin Version
sw_gamedesc_override - Change this cvar to your desired game description (to reset, simply change it back to the default, such as "Team Fortress")

Installation:
Put sw_gamedesc_override.smx into /addons/sourcemod/plugins and reboot your server or type "sm plugins load sw_gamedesc_override" into your console or rcon.

Requirements:
This plugin requires SteamWorks.

Changelog:
Quote:

1.1 - Recompiled with SM1.9-dev+5921
1.0 - Added Updater Support
0.1 - Initial Release

Nope.

Do be aware that some plugins (particularly game mode plugins) will set the game description on their own.

Plugin Approvers have a plugin on their private server which randomly pick New plugins, once they are picked a GetRandomInt(0,1337) is used. The number is used in a game of nuclear dawn, against real players. If the number picked ever comes up then you are automatically approved. It's a waiting game really. Depending on the approver depends on the game.

The review queue still has a few plugins from 2010 in it and a LOT from 2012-2013. You posted this plugin 2 days ago.

Unless you've just taken over an existing plugin whose author abandoned it, your chances of the plugin getting approved any time soon is extremely slim.

I think this was dr.mckay's old-already-approved plugin that changed a few lines to use SteamWorks instead. (removed updater also)

That's not my plugin, you have to install SteamWorks correctly.

Nice and simple.
The include folder is called "include" instead of "includes" by the way ;)
You don't need to include the include files of dependencies at all. Just risks being outdated.

Attempted to use it on cs:go, all plugins loaded but the game description did not change.

Running SourceMod 1.6.1, SteamWorks Extension (1.1) and the 0.1 version of this plugin.

Negative, nothing seems to be wrong factually, I've checked the cvar in-game and that was fine as well (as in it had the name that I've set it to). Forgot to say also that I am running windows

I'll launch my CSGO server to check this out. Also, are you using SteamWorks extension from the Original Post, or did you use another build.

Using GoD-Tony's compile since the main post doesn't have a windows compile.

Been using it on CS:GO since it was released and it works fine, also using that steamworks compilation

So for some reason on csgo, the plugin would not change the game description unless you changed the cvar ingame, which was inconvenient, so I decided to make a small fix. All it really does is request the cvar value on OnConfigsExecuted() and set it, to make sure the name you set up on gameservers_[gamemode].cfg or on server.cfg will be indeed read.

If you want to compile it yourself, obviously requires steamworks.

what exactly does this allow you to change? the info listed for the server like round limit? team collision? or just the type of game mode?

The information you see when clicking server description, I guess?

Try my method, just put this line to your server.cfg
Code:

sm_rcon sm_cvar sw_gamedesc_override yourgamedesc
And the one question, do you have installed latest SteamWorks extension for this?

Re: [ANY] SteamWorks Game Description Override (v1.1, 2016-06-17)

I've added line sw_gamedesc_override "Dust2 Only" line in autoexec.cfg on my CS:S linux server but everytime I restart server the Game Description changes to its default (Counter Strike:Source).

So is there any way to keep a custom Game Description after the server restart? Or I have to type sw_gamedesc_override "Dust2 Only" everytime in the console after the server was restarted?

Kind regards.

Put it in server.cfg as it has to run after SourceMod and the SteamWorks Extension are loaded.

Re: [ANY] SteamWorks Game Description Override (v1.1, 2016-06-17)

I've been using this plugin for years, thanks so much! One issue I have recently come across surfaced when I moved to my new server. I am running two servers from the same directory, and it seems only one server will get the description override. Is this a limitation with steamworks? Maybe the extension file can only be used by one instance at a time?
