Re: Source Dedicated Server for Mac OS X

i can now see the server in the terminal running but when i connect with a client to the server i recieve;
you do not have this 3rd party mod installed
I have attempted the server with both a vanilla install and my saved srcds server files from my good running server (sludgeworks). both recieve the warning. i was thinking that the server files might need to be updated and that is why i did a test of my known good server files from the sludgeworks server.
are osx servers designed to server only to osx clients? stupid question but this is the only thing i can come up with to ask as my server is osx and i am atempting to connect with a win7 client.

dang,
I have created and recreated the folder structure at least 6 different times with the same results. I am close to losing my mind, time to put this away for a few days before I am fully instituted to some mental hospital.

I've gotten the server to launch using option 3 but it won't let me join "the server is running an older version of the game"

Re: Source Dedicated Server for Mac OS X

I apologize for taking so long with this, but I have fixed the problem with not being able to connect to the server when using the -steam option. Amusingly, the same problem appears to affect the Steam dedicated server on Windows too, so it seems to be Valve's bug. Standalone Windows servers are fine though which is probably why not many have seemed to notice this.

In any case, I've worked around the problem and Windows or OS X clients should be able to connect to the server. The links in the first post have the updated binaries.

When I try to enter
".srcds_run -game tf -steam"
It says
"-bash: .srcds_run: command not found"
I made sure its in my directory where the server fils are.

Re: Source Dedicated Server for Mac OS X

There should be a slash after the period (because the period means the current directory/folder), but also make sure you choose a map as well like:

./srcds_run -game tf -steam +map ctf_2fort

Re: Source Dedicated Server for Mac OS X

I have an old PowerMac G5 7,3 with dual 2.5GHz processors and am eager to try this out. Disregarding my specs, how is the general Mac performance of the server compared to a similar Windows computer? Does one have to expect worse performance? If so, how much worse? And also, out of sheer curiosity, is the hacks.cpp file the only thing you've had to code in order to port this successfully? This is an amazing job, nevertheless, and I am very grateful that you've taken your time to make this work!

Looking forward to getting my Mac server setup :P !

Re: Source Dedicated Server for Mac OS X

This isn't going to work on PowerPC Macs. Valve ported Steam and the Source engine games only to Intel Macs with OS X 10.5 and greater. This same limitation applies to srcds_osx.

Darn it! I had totally forgot about that. Now what do I use this computer for, haha?
