Which do you prefer? Why?
And does anyone know where I can get a CGI PHPbb? Lol, I love phpBB, but I can't host a webserver here.

Why do you hate IPB? don't just say that you do, explain why.
I like IPB more than Phpbb, it has more stuff, are much more powerful and are easier to moderate.

There are no mods for phpBB 2.0.8 (yet) but there are no mods to IPB 2.0 neither.
phpBB have 104 mods for version 2.0.6, IPB have 277 (http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/) mods for version 1.3.*

I like PHPBB. I love it a LOT more than I do IPB. It has more stuff, easier to moderate, and IPB kind of reminds me of an organization that I despise. I wish i could get a cgi phpbb :(

you could make it CGI by rewriting the PHP files

or whatever the path is
since phpbb saves the extension in a global variable, making it ".cgi" is not difficult

2.0.8 phpbb forum is just a 2.0.6 board of security updates, mods work with almost all versions, just because they dont update thier mods website page does not mean it wont work with the forum itself.
phpbb is more powerful in many senses, the possiblities are unlmited with a phpbb forum.
and when phpbb 2.2 comes out.
Good Game, nothing would be able to top the free market boards exepct for ikonboard (which is cgi)

I hate IPB more than any one. We have some cool mods on our phpbb 2.0.8 on www.rawcs.com. Some of the mods could be usefull over here also. All old mods phpbb 2.0.5-2.0.6 works on 2.0.8 without ANY problem.
PLEASE, do not change form phpbb to any other junk boards
PHPBB has this search feature that NONE of the boards have:
View your posts
This is the MOST usefull search feature ever to be created.

I can't run a webserver off my computer if that's what you need to do to run a phpbb forum. I know NOTHING of php, so could osmeone tell me what I have to do to run one

Basically you just need a webhost and SQL database... Thats why I asked what it is for :)

If you really want to run a webserver on your own computer (e.g. to test things), you may like a look at XAMPP (http://www.apachefriends.org/xampp-en.html). :)
ipb is faster and has radical arcade pleasure add on. http://thebloodshed.com/forum/index.php?act=Arcade

I was searching for sql support and happened upon this thread. Ive dumped so much time in ipb I had tp post. ipb 2.0 update for our site looks impossible! I guess that's the pentalty for hacking it up with mods. Maybe mahnsawce can wave a hard long staff over the site and do a magical interweb update to 2.0 for us.

Anyway, since this topic is bumped.
He forgot to add SMF :D.
I like SMF and phpBB. But currently I'm using SMF. When Olympus (phpBB 3.0) comes out, I'll switch.
Why not use SMF for the AMXX Forums? Quite alot of built in stuff :D.

Paid forum and blah blah...If phpBB's Mod Community were keen enough, they could make a clone of IPB, maybe even better.

Haha, IPB pwns, It allows you to do soo many things, If only people could take the time and actually f*ng learn how to use It, they would love It. IPB Is soo dynamic, soo customizable, and easy to to get any version you want. I have IPB 1.3 Final, I like 1.3, and I did not buy It. It depends on how someone sets up IPB. I love IPB, all of It :)

I love IPB but I'm using phpbb and sometimes IPB. IPB has so many features that I don't know how to use the whole thing. But the templates for IPB are nicer and everything it's just that it is hard to set up the board.

Actually, No, phpBB has a quite simple panel. Too simple, not as customizable, not as configurable.
