gameinfo rewriting itself

Despite my efforts to install metamod source I cannot get it to run on either a deticated windows server or an ingame hosted server. When I add the line to gameinfo, save, then run, it rewrites itself to the original.
I followed instructions in the instal help to create a .bat to reload the correct gameinfo file but this has not worked.
I would appreciate any help someone could give me in solving this issue.

For a dedicated game server, set it to read only. For a listen server, the automated installer creates an icon for you.
