View Full Version : May I post this to Valve ?

To debug my plugin under linux, I've used valgrind (http://valgrind.org/).

I've started my dedicated server like this :
valgrind --verbose --trace-children=yes --track-fds=yes --demangle=yes --leak-check=yes --log-file=log ./srcds_run -debug -allowdebug -insecure +map de_dust

Here are some parts of the log file :
==17578== More than 50 errors detected. Subsequent errors
==17578== will still be recorded, but in less detail than before.

==17578== More than 30000 total errors detected. I'm not reporting any more.
==17578== Final error counts will be inaccurate. Go fix your program!
==17578== Rerun with --error-limit=no to disable this cutoff. Note
==17578== that errors may occur in your program without prior warning from
==17578== Valgrind, because errors are no longer being displayed.

And this, before the init of my plugin...

insane! This has happened on only your server or others aswell? Maybe you should do somemore tests then Valve would really have to look at it!

Valve is no good at memory management. Almost everything I've seen has had a ton of memory leaks.

Yea, the HLCoders list might be the best place to report this..

Know of any software like this for windows?

I haven't tested it on other servers...

I think I'll have a big log if I want to make a full test of my plugin...

There's a program called PurifyPlus by IBM that does this under Windows but it's not free. That's the only program I've heard of that checks for memory leaks besides ones that have to be compiled with your code.
